Before the Burj Khalifa, earlier than the Burj Al Arab, there was the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Completed in 1979, it dominated the city’s skyline as a towering assertion of intent; a logo of Dubai’s ambitions as a regional monetary middle and rising financial drive. Thirty-nine tales and 489 ft excessive, at the time it was the tallest constructing between Mumbai and Athens, in keeping with the centre’s former director and first worker Guy Guillemard.

From wild rumors the tower wasn’t straight to questions over why builders needed to wash seashore sand for its building, the Dubai World Trade Centre has an attention-grabbing and little-known backstory. Now, because of a trendy heritage initiative by Dubai Municipality, the city’s most venerable high-rise is to be preserved to make sure its safety.
