Palm Oil Imports Rose 31% in August

Palm oil imports have gone up in August 2021 in comparison with the earlier month

India’s dependency on palm oil imports continues to develop as in August 2021, 7.43 lakh metric tonnes of palm oil was imported, which was 31 per cent greater than 5.65 lakh metric tonnes imported in July 2021.

According to figures launched by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, palm oil constitutes round 54 per cent of the entire edible oil imported primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia. Soyabean oil constitutes 25 per cent of India’s edible oil imports from Argentina and Brazil, whereas sunflower kinds 19 per cent of complete imports and is principally imported from Ukraine.

Official sources say that as a result of hole in demand and provide, nearly 60 per cent of edible oils consumed in India, are imported.

They additional added that every day manufacturing is carefully watched together with imports and costs of edible oils in order to maintain the costs in test.

An inter-ministerial committee on agricultural commodities which is headed by Secretary in the Department of Food, additionally screens their availability, particularly that of edible oil, sources additional stated.
